Students shine in World Scholar’s Cup -

The World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) is a series of competitions designed to facilitate and stimulate learning in different subject areas while making learning a lot of fun. Students have enjoyed taking these exceptional series of tests, cut across different learning areas with the theme for 2016 being ‘An Imperfect World’.

The topics for this year were:
- Special area- Crime and Justice- History- A history of cheating- Science- Diseases and Public health- Literature- Words to light the darkness- Arts- Flawed visions, broken sounds- Social studies- When states falter

The challenges comprised of:
COLLABORATIVE WRITING- The collaborative writing was the very first competition that took place in the WSC event. All the teams were seated together and given various subjects with different topics to write on. The competition was tough but fun at the same time. Students debated with their pens and gave their views regarding the topics.SCHOLAR’S CHALLENGE- The collaborative writing was followed by the second contest of the day, the Scholar’s challenge. Probably the toughest event of the WSC event, the scholar’s challenge required each student to fill their answer sheets by guessing as many as four answers from the provided options for ninety questions. With a tricky marking scheme, this challenge left the students baffled and knowledgeable in a matter of just sixty minutes.
SCHOLAR’S DEBATE- The third challenge of the event was the Scholar’s debate. There were three rounds in total which included debating with different schools and personalized schedules for each team. All the rounds had different topics and for each round, students had fifteen minutes to prepare and four minutes to speak. The highest scorers from this round were further selected for the debate showcase. All the teams spoke commendably well and found the topics challenging.SCHOLAR’S BOWL- This was the last challenge of the WSC event and was like any other normal team quiz challenge except each team was handed a clicker with which they had to choose their answers. The questions were displayed on a screen and each team had fifteen seconds to answer the question. There were also some rapid fire questions which had to be answered in just three seconds!
SCHOLAR’S SHOW- This was another additional besides the Debate Showcase on the very last day of the competition. This show was organized to honor talents and ease the tension amongst all the students competing to reach the Global Rounds. Almost all schools participated in this event, winning applauses and the hearts of the audience seated below.
At the end of the whole WSC event, our tears that trickled down spoke for itself about the pride and joy we felt for ourselves. The best news was when we got to know that the eighteen of us had gotten through the regional rounds and would be competing in the Global Rounds of 2017. The feeling was so unreal as we were one step close to entering the gates of Yale University.
