A message from the Founder and Managing Trustee Mrs Nellie Ahmed Tanweer was read out by the Principal Mrs Alpana Khound Phukan. “Our expectations from you are rather high and we know that each one of you will work very hard for the next few days and make us proud as you have always been doing,” the Managing Trustee said. Senior teacher Mrs Veena Hasan was the next speaker who took the students to their primary days through her words. A very good morning to everyone present here and greetings to all students especially the important batches of classes XII and X who are assembled here on the occasion of their Blessing Ceremony.

On this auspicious day I would like to go back many years and want you all to dwell on the day you had joined Maria’s. It’s been a quick journey - these last 12 years. You were an infant then, clinging to the figures of your pre-primary school teachers - many of whom are still there - and today the class XII’s are on the threshold of carving a new life. You probably have mixed feelings today, sad at the prospect of leaving behind what was ‘home’ with all your friends who have become like your own siblings after spending so many years together and your teacher’s protective arms - yet excited to explore the mysteries that await you. However, I am sure that your days at Maria’s can never be forgotten and the lessons and values learnt throughout the years will forever guide and inspire at every step you take in the future. The Principals who had been during your schooling here - Mrs. Maya Choudhury, Mrs. Krishna Datta, Mrs. Moushumi Banerjee and the teachers who have taught you right from the pre-primary level to your senior secondary have left indelible marks in your lives - never to be forgotten. We hope you can always keep the spirit of Maria’s in you and remain steadfast Marians throughout your lives. Our expectations from you are rather high and we know that each one of you will work very hard for the next few days and make us proud as you have always been doing. Recently a few of you from class X inspite of your busy scheduled, put up a fantastic performance at the SAG inaugurations. You have excelled and we cannot be satisfied with mediocrity now. I thank you for it children. The cabinet members and the anchors for the plays that we had staged also deserve applause. They juggled their studies with the time spent those two days at the venue and did their jobs meticulously. On this auspicious occasions I would wish to bless each one of you so that you come out with flying colors and make yourself, your parents, your teachers and your school proud of you. As for the X’s I request you to come back to your own school and your own teachers. There is no other place like home as is Maria’s.

For the outgoing batch, keep in touch with your alma-mater and help strengthen the Alumni Association of MPS. A big God bless you to you all once again.

The Speech by Principal Mrs. Alpana Khound Phukan

A very good morning Vice-Principal Mr. Anjan Gogoi, Head-Mistress Senior secondary Mrs. Madhabi Goswami, all teachers present here, students of class IX and XI and most importantly, the batches of class XII and class X, 2016.

We have assembled here today on this auspicious occasion to offer our blessings to each and every candidate of AISSCE and AISS Examination 2016, which will be commencing exactly a fortnight from today. We would like to bless you so that each one of you comes out very very successful in this very important event of your scholastic life – for the class X’s – your first. I am sure each one of you is working to the best of your capacity and capability. Give it your best shot, children and there’s no looking back. For the Class XII’s, today marks the end as well as a beginning – the end of a safely, supervised school life and the beginning of a life in the ‘real world’. I urge you children to wisely handle the future and freedom that await you. Each one of us feel equally enriched and advantaged by the remarkable journey that had been – some of you from the time you were a toddler to a young adult now. As for the Class X’s, we need each one of you back with us – back to make the institution grow stronger. This is your school and you are ours and we hope to see all of you back at MPS with renewed vigour to complete your next two years. You will all light the candles now placed over the beautiful Rangoli on the stage, carry them home and keep them with you. It would mark the carrying away of the light of knowledge you had gathered at school to illuminate the world that you may touch.

May God bless all of you for your forthcoming exams and your future thereafter. I wish that all your dreams may come true.
