The celebration of Children’s Day, 2016 at Maria’s Public School started with a special prayer by school counselor, Mercy Alex invoking God to bestow His love and blessings on children. In her message on the occasion, Mrs Nellie Ahmed Tanweer, the Founder & Managing Trustee of the school said, “Amidst all the pomp and glory, we should not lose sight of Chacha Nehru’s real message, that is, providing our children with a safe and loving environment in which to grow and as well as giving them ample and equal opportunities through which they can take great strides and contribute to the progress of the nation.” Mrs Alpana Khound Phukan, while giving her speech drew attention of the children towards their rights and spoke of the children who are sick, abused, hungry and orphaned. She also spoke about the rights of children and asked them to be aware about them. Thereafter Mrs Nilofer Zaman, HoD, Science talked about the significance of the day. The children were thrilled to see a group of teachers taking the stage for a chorus which included lines from popular Hindi and English numbers. But the most exciting moment of the celebration was when student and teachers played Antakshari in groups. The day of fun and frolic finally came to an end with the school song and then students heading towards their classrooms to be with their class teachers and enjoying the refreshments.
