Grandparents’ Day was observed at Maria’s Public School, Birkuchi on June 3, 2016. This year the guest invitees were the grandparents of the students of classes IV and V. The Principal Mrs Alpana Khound Phukan signified the influence of grandparents on children in her inaugural address. The day was marked by a gala event of dance and music. A zealous bunch of children sang a group song in praise of the grandparents and danced to a colourful medley of tribal dances from the northeast of India. A game – Pinning the Clown’s Hair was organized among the grandparents which they thoroughly enjoyed. Refreshment stalls with a variety of savoury snacks was a special attraction of the day. The programme ended on a fun-filled note as teachers of the primary section rekindled the child in the grandparents. Anuradha Dutta, a grandparent in her speech greatly appreciated the efforts taken by the teachers in grooming the kids.
