The 70th Independence Day was celebrated at Maria’s Public School with an hours-long colourful programme. The celebration started with the hoisting of the flag by the Principal Mrs Alpana Khound Phukan at 9 a.m. The National Anthem sung together by both teachers and students reverberated the air after unfurling of the flag. The Principal then delivered a speech wherein she told the students about the supreme sacrifice the great martyr endured for the sake of the freedom of our country. The festive mood was enhanced by a cultural programme presented by the students of Class V. The students of class VII performed a song which further augmented the patriotic mood. The stage was then taken over by the students of Class IV to perform a musical to depict the freedom struggle of the country. A student of the same class performed a song “Ae mere watan ke logo” and another danced to the tune of “Vande Mataram” concluding the programme with a nationalistic fervor.
