- Legal rights and children

The social and economic norms are changing on a rapid scale. So are the amendments in the legal system. Hence it is pertinent to generate awareness about the legal rights and responsibilities among children from time to time. In a bid to sensitize the children about the facilities that the Indian legal system offers them, an orientation programme was held at Maria’s Public School on November 25, 2016 where children of classes VIII to XII were apprised about various malpractices that might be meted out to them. The areas discussed were child abuse, sexual harassment, ragging or bullying in school, cyber stalking and abuses of women in workplaces. The session was conducted by Pallavi Barua, a corporate lawyer of the city. The children who attended the programme were awakened to the provisions of the law which will definitely help them to stay away from such wrongdoings and furthermore, they would now have a voice against these menaces.
