- Annual Concert -
Recreating ABBA magic

It was a ‘real stress buster’ as termed by Mrs Nellie Ahmed, the Founder and Managing Trustee of the school when students jived to the swaying tunes of popular ABBA numbers recreating the magic of yesteryear’s pop craze through the adaptation of Mamma Mia in the annual musical concert of the school on January 11 and 12, 2017 at the GMCH Auditorium in the city.

The show on the first day was slated for the students of Maria’s. The second day had two shows, the first being reserved for secondary and senior secondary classes of Maria’s and invited schools while the evening show was for the invited guests and parents.

Minutes before the curtain raised for the musical, Mrs Nellie Ahmed, the Founder and Managing Trustee of the school welcomed the distinguished audience and said that shows like this work as real stress busters for children who are occupied with compact academic schedule throughout the year with potential stressors.

Produced by Mrs Ahmed, the musical was choreographed by Mr Norbu Tshering, a Delhi based leading choreographer and director who has actively worked with National School of Drama (NSD) in the past and has recently conducted three plays for the NSD’s repertory company, Adhaa Chaand, with director Tripurari Sharma.

Mr P Padmanabhan, Managing Director, NRL, graced the show as the Chief Guest and lauded the effort of the school and children to stage the musical which, according to him, was brilliant. Priyadarshini Chatterjee, the reigning fbb Femina Miss India and an alumni of the school attended the occasion as the special guest amongst other distinguished invitees. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the musical that told a romantic story of triumph of true love.

With special support from the Principal Mrs Alpana Khound Phukan and Vice Principal Mr Anjan Gogoi, the cast had students from the school who seemed to have enjoyed themselves while dancing and enacting the characters. It is worth mentioning that last year the school presented two musicals ‘Grease’ and ‘Oliver’ as its annual concert which were smashing hits among the students and the audience.
