The saga of three weeks of rigorous practice of dance moves, moods, expressions and attitudes culminated into two exquisite musicals - Oliver and Grease – adaptations of Dickens’ masterpiece Oliver Twist and Grease, the Hollywood blockbuster of the 1970’s, respectively. There were three shows on stage. The first show was for the students on January 29. On the 30th, the morning show was for the invitees and parents of the students of the Primary Section at 10.30 am and the second show was for the special invitees and parents of the Middle, High and Senior Secondary students.
Terming it as the celebration of the bond between parents and well-wishers with the school, the Founder and Managing Trustee, Mrs Nellie Ahmed Tanweer said in her speech that Maria’s is now synonymous with quality and holistic development of the children nurturing the young minds to grow as competent individuals with values to be able to face all challenges in life.

At Maria's Public School, while inculcating values through education, we have encompassed a wide range of programmes and activities in the school curriculum to enhance the creativity and the aesthetic sense in children to go with the founder's vision of Learning beyond the classroom. An all-round development is strived for through Life Skill programmes and various other activities incorporated in the wings".
Mrs Babita Sarma, Chairperson, Assam State Film Finance and Development Corporation, graced the morning show as the chief guest and lauded the efforts of Maria’s to stage such beautiful presentations. Gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest for the evening, the Regional Officer, CBSE, Guwahati Mr Sanjiv Das expressed happiness at Maria’s’ endeavour to stage such a show. He said that the musical Oliver brought back memories of his student life as he was introduced to English Literature through Dickens’ ‘Oliver Twist’. Mrs Ambika Padmanavan honoured the occasion with her presence as the guest of honour. All the other guests and parents present at the concert enjoyed the brilliant performance of the students and appreciated the efforts of Maria’s to present the delightful musicals.
Produced by Mrs Nellie Ahmed Tanweer the adaptations were choreographed by Norbu Tshering and Garima Shitoot, two reputed choreographers of the country. With special and continuous support by the Principal of the school Mrs Alpana Khound Phukan, and production designed by Mr Biswajit De, Creative Director, set assembling and lights by Systems and Services, the concert was coordinated by teachers Nandita Baruah and Arundhati Nath. The lead artistes of the musicals were Vernan Mahanta (Oliver Twist), Dhruban Talukdar (Danny) and Shreya Deka (Sandy). A host of other students performed brilliantly as supporting cast. Along with that there were a huge group of teachers who worked relentlessly to make the show a success.
A photo-book on Maria’s international dimension was also inaugurated on the occasion.
