Prize distribution ceremony organized on May 31, 2018

The Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony, the day to honour and appreciate students’ achievement in academics, attendance, sports, culture, art along with distribution of scholarship – was organized at Maria’s Public School on May 31, 2018. The programme of the day started with the singing of the National Anthem by the school choir and by all present on the occasion followed by ceremonial lighting of the lamp. In her welcome address Mrs Nellie Ahmed Tanweer heartily congratulated the students who have brilliantly passed the classes 10 and 12 boards this year. She also congratulated all the prize winners and scholarship awardees. She highly applauded Principal Alpana Khaond Phukan for conferment of ‘Best Principal’ award on her for her leadership quality by Science Olympiad Association. She also proudly announced that Mrs Khaond has been associated with the school for 27 years. Mrs Ahmed addressed the students and said that they should be dedicated towards attaining knowledge as “Knowledge is more powerful than anything else” reiterating her mother Mrs Sofia Z Ahmed. Dr Anil Goswami, Retired Professor of Cotton College who is also the Chairman of the Maria’s Educational Trust attended the function as the Chief Guest and congratulated Mrs Nellie Ahmed Tanweer and her team on the completion of glorious 30 years of the school. He ended his speech by quoting a Japanese saying, “Keep a green tree in your heart and the song bird will automatically come.” Right after his speech the distribution of prizes began with prize winners of General Proficiency being called to receive their awards first. A galore of prizes followed with acknowledgment and appreciation for brilliance in academics, sincerity in attending school, remarkable achievement in sports, avid readership, achievement in culture, art etc. The distribution of scholarships namely, Nellie Ahmed Tanweer Award, Sofia Z Ahmed Award, Manimala Das and Kelkar Awards for proficiency in academics were distributed. The prize for the annual art competition, Kaushik Dev Choudhury Award was also conferred by Dr Manju Rani Devi. The award for the high achieving differently abled child, Lily Islam Scholarship was also given away by Naznin Banu Islam. After the distribution of awards and prizes Dr Mofuza Rahman, Retired HoD, Cotton University spoke on importance on values in today’s world. She urged the students to imbibe values for their healthy growth as individuals. She also said that learning goes beyond curriculum. Knowledge can be gained even from the uneducated.

The teachers with hundred percent attendance were also felicitated in the function. Worth mentioning that among these teachers Ms Diti Ahmed, a teacher in the Maria Montessori House of Children has not been absent even for a single day in her 25 years of service to the school; so is Mrs Mercy Alex, senior teacher and school counsellor, who has been rendering her services to the school for 17 years without any break.

The joyous day came to an end with the singing of the school song followed by the State Song.
