On the pleasant Sunday morning of the 5th of June, 2022, Maria’s Public School, Guwahati celebrated World Environment Day with great zeal and enthusiasm in collaboration with FICCI FLO, a women wing of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and the Assam Forest Department. The students and teachers exhibited their utmost concern towards the conservation of the environment.
The programme began with the Host, Mahita Saikia, Head Girl and Round Square Council Member of MPS, reminding the audience about the importance of the environment and its conservation. In a special message sent on the occasion, the Founder and Managing Trustee of Maria’s Public School, Mrs Nellie Ahmed said that nature is now on an emergency mode and we need urgent action to address the pressing issues regarding the earth. Following it, was the Welcome Speech given by Principal Mausumi Mahanta, who urged everyone to restart their journey from ‘Harming to Healing the environment’. She encouraged the audience to take eco-friendly measures that were both affordable and attractive at the same time. Then, the Host invited the Environment and Ecology Secretary of MPS, Trinayana Thakuria to give her speech who, through her words, inspired the audience to reflect on their actions and spread positivity by showing kindness to the environment through their morals. After that, the Chairperson of FICCI FLO, Meghali Das was felicitated by the Principal of the school. She then expressed her views on the grand event by motivating everyone present to be responsible towards the environment and live sustainably in harmony with nature. She also encouraged everyone to plant as many trees as they could.
The programme further proceeded with the speech of the Creative Director of MPS, Mr. Biswajit De who presented photos and videos of the 35 years of the educational journey of the school where conservation education has always been one of the highpoints of its curriculum. He also talked about the successful Global Strategic Programmes that the school has conducted and showcased the ‘Glides and Drives: Soaring to the end of the world’ survey programme which has become a leading global initiative taken up in this regard. Following this, the musical band of the school enthralled the audience with their rendition in three languages. Then, the Vice Chairperson of FICCI FLO was felicitated by the Principal. She delivered the vote of thanks.
The day’s programme ended with the plantation of saplings near the school gate and the garden area.
