MARIA'S PUBLIC SCHOOL
UNDER MARIA'S PUBLIC SCHOOL EDUCATIONAL TRUST
A Senior Secondary School affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education
Noted journalist and a prolific author known for her stories of conflict-torn regions in northeast India, Mrs Teresa Rehman was honoured with the second Mofizuddin Ahmed Hazarika Memorial Kavya Award on August 30 in the Award Ceremony of 21st Mofizuddin Ahmed Hazarika Literary Festival held on a virtual platform from August 16 to August 23, 2021. Announcing the award on behalf of Maria’s Educational Trust Mrs Nellie Ahmed, Founder and Managing Trustee, Maria’s Public School spoke about the brilliance of Ms Rehman in chronicling the lives of the common people of this under-reported and conflict-torn region. Ms Rehman, while delivering her speech spoke highly of the Gyanmalini Kobi’s style and themes of poetry and said that his poetry transcends the boundaries of time. She also felt greatly honoured to receive the award in the name of the sublime poet.
Twenty schools with about sixty participants from different parts of the country as well as from Muscat took part in the literary competitions which were organised in four languages, namely, English, Assamese, Hindi and Sanskrit. The debate competition was held in English only. All the competitions were organised virtually with a wholehearted response from all schools.
It is worth mentioning that two of the poems of the Gyanmalini Kobi have been translated into English this year by Ms Asfia Ahmed, a granddaughter of the poet who has been working on literacy and academic projects for women and children all over India and Dr Rakhee Kalita Moral, currently Head, Centre for Women’s Studies and Associate Professor of English at Cotton University and Head of the Department, English in Cotton College. Being present in the meeting Mrs Ahmed and Mrs Moral spoke about the unique style and universal theme of the poems written by the poet which are relevant even after one and a half century now.
