On May 4, 2022 the Class 12 students of 2022-23 batch had an enlightening interactive session with Harish Borah, who has recently returned from the ‘2041 ClimateForce Antarctic Expedition’ organised in March 2022. He was among the 150 member group  from 35 countries globally, shortlisted over a period of 4 years, based on his work in Climate Action. Led by Robert Swan (1st human to trek to both the north and south poles), the expedition has a history of providing a powerful platform for meaningful climate policy and sustainable business practices, as a means of progress; and with an aim to empower ‘leaders in climate action’ to become a global force of change-makers.

During the session the students were able to clear a lot of doubts regarding many complex issues on climate change and the environment as a whole. Maria’s Public School, which is one of the flagbearer schools in the Northeast to sensitise its students towards the environmental stewardship felt proud to welcome Harish Borah, a student of batch of 2005 who is now creating significant global impact in his chosen field.

Harish was a bright and focussed individual during his time in school, and is remembered to always have had a progressive outlook towards life.

Further ahead, Harish completed the University of Cambridge’s (UK) Business Sustainability Management Programme with top scores; besides holding a distinction for his master’s degree in ‘Commercial Project Management’ from the University of Manchester (UK). He is a recipient of Ratan Tata Trust Grant (India), Hammond Trust Grant (UK), and the Student Leader Award at the ‘Commonwealth Study Conference, London’, among others.

As part of the on-going effort to transition our societies into a ‘low-carbon future’, Harish delivers 90+ projects annually as a life cycle (cost and carbon) practitioner – splitting his time between projects in UK/EU and India. A large part of his work includes developing the investor’s financial confidence in net-zero carbon buildings and sustainable design through cost-carbon decision making.

It was indeed a moment of pride when Harish visited his alma mater to share his vast experiences with the students.
