Maria’s Public School celebrated ‘Annual Prize Day’ for the Session 2024-25 with great zeal and enthusiasm on May 24, 2025. In her welcome address Principal Mausumi Mahanta said, “This Prize Day is a testimony to the spirit of excellence that thrives within our school community.” She congratulated all the prize winners and said that their diligence and curiosity have set a benchmark for their peers. Although the Founder Managing Trustee Mrs Nellie Ahmed couldn’t be physically present that day as she is away at Gurgaon for medical reasons, she joined in the programme virtually. The Principal conveyed her message wherein she urged all the prize winners to pursue their dreams and keep the Marian Flag soar higher and higher.
The event was graced by Mr Apurva Jiban Baruah, former DIG (Central Range) as the Chief Guest, who emphasized the importance of learning basic life skills, saying that these are essential for developing discipline and achieving success in life.
The Guest of Honour for the event, Dr. Debajyoti Barooah, Associate Professor in Physics, Cotton University highlighted that education is not merely about collecting or memorizing facts, but about understanding concepts deeply. He emphasized the importance of conceptual learning in shaping young minds. At the same time, he urged students to remain connected to their roots and uphold the rich culture and values of society.
On this day, ‘Proficiency Awards’ were given out to the best academic performances from classes 1 to 9, besides acknowledging the best performances of three streams in Class 11 in the session. The ‘Highest Achiever’ Award in the Inclusive Education wing was received by Adnan Zahid of Class 8. Every year the highest performer in this wing is given a cash award by Mrs Naznin Banu Islam, a well-wisher of the school.
Kamal Jyoti Garg of Class 11 received the ‘Special Recognition’ Award.
Adyant Upamanya was appreciated for winning ‘Spell B National AIR-20’ and Guwahati Spell Master for three consecutive years.
The four scholarship awards, ‘Kelkar & Manimala Das Scholarship Examination-Standard: IV & V’, ‘Bakte Jamal Ahmed Scholarship Examination’, ‘Sofiya Z. Ahmed Scholarship Examination Standard: VI & VII’ and ‘Nellie Ahmed Scholarship’ were also distributed among the successful students in the occasion.
Eleven students from classes 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 received ‘Hundred Percent Attendance’ awards. Mrs Sushmita Chakraborty, a senior faculty of the Department of Science also received this award.
