Heartiest congratulations to Dr. Aparajita Majumdar who has earned the coveted position of an assistant professor at the History Department of prestigious Brown University and Institute at Brown for Environment and Society (IBES) in the United States. Dr. Majumdar, who completed her primary education at Maria’s Public School, Birkuchi, Guwahati, did her graduation and post graduation in History from Hindu College in Delhi, and obtained M Phil degree in Modern History from Jawaharlal Nehru University. She obtained PhD in History from Cornell University. During her research from the year 2017 to 2024, she also studied as an IvyPlus Exchange Scholar at Yale University.
The subjects Dr. Aparajita Majumdar loves to research are—environmental history, climate change, plant and human relations, South Asian border studies, indigenous society and multi-species related thinking etc. Her research paper has been published in the journal of Environmental Humanities (Duke University Press), Routledge and Indian Historical Review. Her research on rubber trees in the northeast region of colonial India has gained great importance in the world.
For this research she received Cornell University’s ‘Messenger Chalmers Prize 2024’ and ‘Charlotte Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship’ (2024) of Princeton-based Institute for Citizens & Scholars. She was also nominated for Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship.
