The celebration of the Founder’s Day 2022 of Maria’s Public School marking its 34 years of inception began on September 27, 2022 ostentatiously owing to the ongoing half-yearly examination in the school. An all-faith prayer service was organised on the occasion attended by the Founder and Managing Trustee Mrs Nellie Ahmed, Vice Principal Mr Anjan Gogoi, Academic Director Mrs Shahnaaz Rahman including the head mistresses and teachers of primary, secondary and senior secondary sections. The Managing Trustee in her brief note recalled the contribution of all the members including the former principals, teachers and sub-staff in bringing the institution to the level of a global school. She also said, “The prayers said were ‘soul searching’ which drift us to the thought that we all come to this earth alone and depart alone with nothing. And during our stay on this earth these prayers help us to lead our lives.”

The celebration resumed on September 30 with a programme staged by primary students  supported by middle and secondary students. Compered by Urshita Bhuyan the programme began with a brief sketch of the school, its journey from 1988 to 2022, presented by Mrs Nellie Ahmed, the Founder and Managing Trustee, Maria’s Public School. She also introduced the guest of the occasion Ms Piya Bose, an award winning travel entrepreneur who started the Girls On The Go Travel Club in 2008 after quitting her legal profession. Her TEDx talk on starting her business on a zero cash business model was listed by Forbes magazine amongst the Top 9 TEDx talks on travel globally. Travelling extensively in the difficult terrains in the world, Ms Bose has been listed by Conde Naste traveller as one of the top 15 travel entrepreneurs shaking up the travel industry and has been featured in a book by Penguin Publications called ‘You Can Make Your Dreams Work’. She has also been awarded as the Best Travel Entrepreneur of the Year by PCTE University and amongst Top 50 Rising Stars by UK based ‘We Are The City’.

Following this, the Primary Choir enchanted the audience with a birthday song. A Class 5 student Vaidehi Hatibaruah spoke on the occasion which was followed by the recitation of a self-written poem  by Sinasta Meitei of Class 5. An instrumental medley was presented by Srotaswini Nath, Class 3C (Piano Solo – Lullaby), a Mozart Composition by Syeda Albirah Manan of Class 9C and a piano and guitar duet by Pauting Kaurinta, music teacher and Shreyam Biswamitra of Class 7E. The instrumental medley was followed by a Creative Dance Performance by a group of students from classes 6, 7 and 8.

The students and mentor teachers of the Atal Tinkeing Lab arranged an exhibition of the completed projects wherein the drone made by the students was displayed along with other exhibits. The final event of the day was an inspiring presentation by Ms Piya Bose speaking on how one’s passion can be transformed into occupation and how one should stay motivated while fulfilling one’s dream.
