The Mofizuzddin Ahmed Hazarika Memorial Kavya Award 2024 was conferred on much appreciated and celebrated Assamese poet and novelist Mr Nilim Kumar at Guwahati Press Club yesterday amidst an august gathering including the awardee poet Mr Nilim Kumar, key note speakers Dr Garima Kalita, former professor of English and a renowned critic, Dr Bibhash Chowdhury, Professor in the Department of English, Gauhati University, Anish Uz Zaman, an award winning poet and the President of Mofizuddin Ahmed Hazarika Memorial Committee, Asfia Ahmed, former educationist, Mrs Nellie Ahmed, Founder and Managing Trustee, Maria’s Public School, Dr Mahfuza Rahman, former professor and Head of the Department of Geography, Cotton University, Mr Sabba Ahmed, a poet of repute, Mausumi Mahanta, Principal, Maria’s Public School, Mr Asad Zaman and Sarwat Zaman, Vice Principal, Maria’s Public School Mr Anjan Gogoi, representatives from different media houses of Assam, distinguished guests and teachers of Maria’s Public School.

The Mofizuzddin Ahmed Hazarika Memorial Kavya Award was instituted in the year 2020, the 150th birth anniversary of the poet to honour eminent litterateurs in the state. The first recipient of the award was Dr Nilima Thakuria Haque, a nationally acclaimed poet followed by Teresa Rahman, a renowned journalist and writer (2021), Samir Tanti, poet and novelist (2022), Tarun Baruah, educationist and writer (2023).
