The 79th Independence Day was celebrated by Maria’s Public School with much gaiety and patriotic fervour on August 15, 2025. The occasion was marked by inspiring and thought-provoking speeches from the Founder and Managing Trustee, the Principal and student representatives, cultural performances, and symbolic displays of discipline and unity.
The student community through the words of Ryan Vohra, 12 Arts A, expressed deep concern over corruption, inequality in education and basic amenities, communal divisions, and the ongoing struggle for gender equality, even after decades of attaining independence. Yet, his words carried a note of optimism. “Yet, I refuse to give in to despair — for in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., ‘I have a dream today’,” he said, expressing hope for a brighter, more equitable India. The same spirit resonated in the speech of Pakhi Das Senapati from Class 12 Arts A, who reinforced the belief that the dream for a better nation is still alive.
Founder and Managing Trustee Mrs. Nellie Ahmed reflected on the significance of the day, saying, “It’s not just a celebration of our independence but also a reminder of our responsibility towards the future.” She urged the students to give back to the nation in simple but powerful ways, reminding them that even simple actions can have powerful impacts.
The cultural programme of song and dance designed to spread patriotic zeal and pride in the nation was impeccably performed by students ranging from primary classes to inclusive education wing. The march-past and human pyramid of students spoke of discipline, resilience and teamwork and all this made one affirm the belief in our youth, their power to change the world and march ahead with confidence towards the realisation of dreams.
The NCC cadets and Orang House won the first prizes in the march-past.
The programme was seamlessly anchored by Anwesha Bora, the Discipline Captain of the student cabinet.
