Three students from Maria’s Public School have received the IUCN – CEC & WildRoots Club ‘Lifetime Membership Badges’. Hemraj Dass,
Eenakshi Borthakur and Thanglenlal Doungel have been awarded the badges from the International Union (IUCN)’s Commission on Education & Communication (CEC) & WildRoots Conservation Education Foundation (WCEF) for their exceptional contribution in the ‘Youth Climate & Conservation Fellowship Programme (YCCFP) – Cohort 5.0’, during the month of July, 2025.The Marian Delegation Team also comprised senior students from Classes 10 & 11 namely, Kenisha Kalita, Kristisikha Talukdar, Aishani Konwar and Sanjukta Kashyap.
The students were selected to participate in a 4-day training programme which was jointly organised by the IUCN CEC, UNFCCC and WCEF, at the Nameri National Park, as student coordinators. Mentoring a team of 45 students from 6 schools, the Marians gave wonderful
presentations on the ‘Role of Youth in
Conservation’, ‘Design of Climate Policies’ and ‘Perspectives of Conservation Education in North East India’. Their participation was sponsored by a cascaded ‘Seed Funding’ which was received by Dr. Biswajit De, Creative Director of MPS and an active member of the International Steering Committee of the IUCN CEC & #NatureForAll.
With the arrival of the Lifetime Membership Badges, the students are all set to become a part of the Global Coalition of Youth for Conservation, supported by IUCN CEC, UNFCCC-Youngo and the WCEF. The organizations will be supporting their initiatives to weave communities and mobilize the youth for Climate Awareness and Conservation, in the years to come.
