The second Mofizuddin Ahmed Hazarika Memorial Kavya Award 2021 was conferred on renowned journalist Ms Teresa Rehman for her journalistic narratives through her books and writings, in a solemn function at Maria’s Public School on August 8, 2022. Although the award was announced last year virtually, but due to Covid situations the award could not be handed over to her at that time. 

Delivering the welcome addres, Mrs Nellie Ahmed, the Founder and Managing Trustee, Maria’s Public School spoke about the awardee’s incredible works and said that with this award she’s now become a part of the journey to encourage children to create beautiful literary pieces as she would be an inspiration to many budding talents. The other distinguished speakers, along with the awardee Ms Rehman delved deep into the genre and themes of the poetic works of Gyan Malini Kobi Mofizuddin Ahmed Hazarika, who belonged to the Jonaki era in Assamese literature, in their speeches. They also observed how relevant his themes are even in this digital era. 

Principal Mausumi Mahanta announced while delivering her speech that the competitions for the Mofizuddin Ahmed Hazarika Literary Festival 2022 will be held from August 17 on a virtual platform this year too making it convenient for schools across the country and abroad to participate. 

The solemn award function was embellished with award winning recitations and storytelling by three students of Maria’s Public School, namely, Anusna Hazarika, Syeda Albira Mannan and Akshara Saikia, rendition of John Lenon’s ‘Imagine’ by Atreyi Vedant Talukdar and Medha Bhattacharya. The programme was anchored by Mahita Saikia, the Head Girl and Jannat Naz Sadique Rahman, the Cultural Secretary.
