Maria’s Public School observed World Environment Day 2025 with thoughtful initiatives centered around this year’s global theme—“Ending Plastic Pollution.” The celebration featured a series of creative Best-Out-of-Waste activities that underscored the importance of sustainability and responsible living.
The day commenced with a special assembly led by the Head Boy, Head Girl, and students of the Design Department from Classes 10, 11, and 12. The assembly included a special prayer conducted by Principal Mausumi Mahanta, who extended warm wishes to the Marian fraternity. She urged everyone to reflect deeply on the significance of the day and to integrate environmentally conscious practices into daily life—not just on commemorative occasions. She also shared a message from the school’s Founder and Managing Trustee, Mrs. Nellie Ahmed, who emphasized the importance of “practising what we preach.”
A speech on this year’s theme was delivered by Eenakshi Borthakur of Class 10, who thoughtfully connected environmental concerns to the recent flood situation in the city, highlighting the pressing need for climate awareness and action.
Dr. Biswajit De, Creative Director and Design Faculty, introduced the day’s special guests — Ms. Kalpita Bhadra – Interior Designer, Mrs. Surabhi Das Bhuyan – Fashion & Accessories Designer, Mr. Subhankar Chakraborty – Architect and Ex-Marian.
In their inspiring addresses, the guests encouraged students to commit to eco-conscious living and contribute meaningfully to the planet’s well-being.
Following the assembly, students from Grades 1 to 12 actively participated in hands-on creative sessions, crafting planters, utility boxes, badges, and reusable bags from old T-shirts—brilliantly demonstrating the principles of reuse and recycling. The Design students, in particular, showcased innovative and impactful ideas through their work.
Special Prayer of the assembly:
Dear God,
We thank You for the beautiful world You have given us—
The sky so blue, the trees so green,
The rivers that flow, and the flowers that bloom.
Help us to open our eyes to the wonders of Your creation.
On this World Environment Day,
Teach us to care, not just to admire—
To plant, not to pluck,
To protect, not to pollute.
Make our hands gentle and our hearts kind,
So that we may grow up to be responsible stewards of the Earth.
Let our choices reflect love for all living things—
The animals, the plants, the air, and the water.
Bless our school and all children everywhere
That we may learn, act, and inspire others
To keep our planet safe and green—
Today and for all the days to come.
Amen.
