MARIA'S PUBLIC SCHOOL

The 4th edition of the Champion’s Trophy, the Annual Under-19 Inter-School Basketball Tournament organised by Maria’s Public School, was inaugurated on October 31, 2026 at the MPS Basketball Ground by Ms Fariha Zaman, international swimmer and fondly known as the ‘Backstroke Queen of India’, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Addressing the participating teams, Ms Zaman emphasised that sports is not merely about winning but also about imbibing discipline and learning to rise after defeat. She inspired the young players with her words: “Your biggest competition is not the team standing in front of you today. Your biggest competition is the person you were yesterday.” She further highlighted the importance of balancing academics and athletics, stressing that education and sports must go hand in hand.

In his inaugural address, Vice Principal Mr Anjan Gogoi encouraged the players to give their best, push their limits and compete with determination while upholding the values of integrity and sportsmanship. He urged them to respect the game, the referees and one another.

With 20 schools from across Guwahati, Jorhat and Meghalaya participating, the tournament promises to be an exciting celebration of young sporting talent, teamwork and healthy competition.

The inaugural match was played between SFS Guwahati and Jorhat Government School, marking the beginning of the much-awaited sporting event.
