Creative Director, MPS receives certificate of CBSE 'CBE Master Trainer'

Mr. Biswajit De, Creative Director, Maria’s Public School, Guwahati, Assam, India is now a ‘CBE (Competency-based Education) Master Trainer’, certified by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Through an innovative Training Programme which was jointly designed by the CBSE, British Council and the University of Cambridge, Mr. De was trained by veteran Educationists and Teacher Trainers like Dr. Elaine Wilson, who is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge and is a Fellow, Praelector and Dean of Homerton College, affiliated to the University. The two months long extensive training gave Mr. De a chance to observe the Educational Principles of the National Education Policy, 2020 and the guidelines of the CBE: Competency-based Education, which was launched by CBSE, during the year 2020, and he was able to contribute in the CBE Strategies with innovative Action Plans, which he designed for subjects like Design Education & Environmental Science, with Interdisciplinary Approach, applicable to North East India.

Mr. De’s job will be to empower & train the Students and Teachers of MPS first and cascade his learning to other CBSE affiliated Schools, both from the Rural & Urban Sectors. He received the Master Trainer’s Certificate from Mr. Rowan Kennedy, Deputy Director – INDIA, British Council, Ms Preeti Hingorani – Vice President: Education Reform, South Asia Cambridge Partnership for Education and Mr. Joseph Emmanuel, Director of Academics, CBSE, on the 28th of September, 2021.The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) launched the Competency-based Education & Assessment Framework for subjects, including mathematics, science and English, on March 24, 2021. The framework designed and developed by the British Council and UK-based education service organisation, AlphaPlus, is based on extensive research and analysis on the current education model in India. Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced the framework, lauding CBSE and British Council for their efforts in formulating the framework.

Maths HOD of MPS receives NCERT national award

Dr. Munindra Kumar Mazumdar has been conferred the National Award for Innovative Practices and Experiments in Education by NCERT (National Council of Education Research and Training) for the year 2019-20. Dr. Mazumdar is the HOD Mathematics of Maria’s Public School, Guwahati. This coveted award is on the basis of his Project on Joyful Learning of Mathematics in the classroom. Dr Mazumdar submitted fifty innovative teaching modules for the award category. Earlier, Dr. Mazumdar received the prestigious honour of the ‘National Award for Outstanding Effort in Science and Technology Communication (Maths), 2018’ conferred by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, for popularizing Maths among children through print media including books and magazines. He also published numerous books to encourage understanding of Math through experiential learning. Maria’s Public School is indeed proud of his achievement.

Award – Principal

It was a great moment of pride when the Principal of the school Mausumi Mahanta was chosen for the North East Academic Excellence Award along with four other Principals of CBSE schools and fifteen Principals of SEBA schools from across Assam and the North East. ‘News18 Assam NE’ initiated the Academic Excellence Award last year to recognise the achievements of Principals and Teachers who have helped students of their school achieve excellent results in the Board Examination of Class X of the last academic year.

Senior English teacher Jabeen Sharma Pathak received the Teacher Achievement Award for her innovative teaching style and involvement with students. The award function took place in NPS auditorium.

Maria’s Public School receives ScooNews award

Maria’s Public School, Guwahati received the Global Education Award for ‘Phenomenal Implementation Pedagogy (North East) at the ScooNews Global Educators Fest 2019 in Udaipur recently. Maria’s was the only school from the North East to have received the award. The ScooNews award was given away by Lakshyraj Singh, Prince of Mewar and Sonam Wangchuk and was received by Mrs Nellie Ahmed Tanweer, Founder and Managing Trustee of the school. The 3rd edition of ScooNews Global Educators Fest revolved around the theme of ‘Education for Sustainability: Moving On from Conformity to Creativity’. This edition of SGEF brought together the brightest minds to ponder on how to leverage on our illustrious legacy and move towards a sustainable education that prioritises creativity over conformity.

MPS Creative Director receives National Award

Mr. Biswajit De, Creative Director, Maria’s Public School, Guwahati, Assam has won the prestigious National Award for being an Inspiring Climate Educator and Community Service leader. Observing his extensive work in the area of Environment & Conservation Education, the award was given to him by Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Honourable Minister of Education, Govt. of Gujarat, at the National Green Mentors Commendation Conference, organized jointly by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Govt. of India and the Department of Climate Change, Govt, of Gujarat. The jury for the award comprised stalwarts and experts from the Environment Education and Conservation Sector of India. This is the First Time that a teacher from a school from North East India has been chosen to receive the prestigious award. Commended for his use of Creative Arts and Design in Conservation Education, Mr. De continues to inspire the student community and connects them to Nature. Mr De, also a National Geographic Certified Environment Educator, is now undergoing a training in Mysore, as a part of the YouCan Earth Ambassador Programme.

Maths HOD of Maria’s Public School wins National Award

Dr. Munindra Kr. The Award includes Rs 2 lac, a citation and a certificate. The Award will be conferred on Dr. Mazumdar on February 28, the National Science Day, in New Delhi. Dr. Mazumdar has so far written about 20 books, more than 100 articles in newspapers and magazines. He has also attended workshops and seminars in the United States of America, Thailand including many places in India. He has been working at Maria’s Public School for 17 years.

WSC team qualifies for the Global Round

The entire team of Marians comprising 9 students, succeeded in making it to the Global Round of World Scholar’s Cup to be held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from June 18 to June 22, 2018. Each and every Marian participant managed to secure 3 to 7 medals.

The team of 9 pupils was accompanied by their mentor, Ms. Irani Sarmah to take part in the Regional Round of the World Scholar’s Cup programme which was held at Suncity School, Gurgaon, Haryana on April 29 and April 30, 2018.
The World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) is an International team academic program with students participating from over 40 countries. The WSC allows participants to discover their strength and skills and focusses on bringing students from different cultures together to discuss issues and ideas relevant to today and the future. The WSC programme provides the students an opportunity to showcase their skills and ability to excel at debating, quizzing – that involves a quiz show and a multiple choice test of knowledge across six subjects- Literature, Science, Social Studies, Arts, Special Areas and History along with collaborative essay writing. It was indeed a great experience for the young dynamic students of Maria’s to be a part of this prestigious event in which 27 schools and 530 students from India participated.

Souvenir released by Managing Trustee

Mrs Nellie Ahmed Tanweer, the Founder and Managing Trustee of Maria’s Public School released a souvenir on the participation of 17 Marian students in the World Scholar’s Cup Global Round at Hanoi, Vietnam. The booklet includes the team’s overwhelming performance in the global event after a grueling regional round. It is worth mentioning that the team, which was led by the Managing Trustee herself together with the Vice Principal of the school and the mentor teacher, Jabin Sharma Pathak, had won 20 coveted prizes comprising 7 gold and 13 silver medals in the cross border inter cultural and literary programme. The handbook is a memoir of the wholesome expetience in the Land of the Dragon.

Best Teacher Award to Shahnaaz Rahman and Moushmi Sharma

It was a moment of great pride when two senior teachers of Maria’s Public School, Mrs Shahnaaz Rahman and Ms Moushmi Sharma were conferred with the Best Teacher Award by the C T Group of Institutions and Universal Carrerz, Jalandhar, Punjab in a solemn function held at Hotel Ambarish Regency, Guwahati on February 19, 2018. The Award, which was presented in honour of selfless service in the field of teaching, included a trophy and a certificate. It is worth mentioning that Mrs Rahman has been working at Maria’s for the last 27 years and Ms Sarma has completed 21 years of teaching in the school. Their dedication to the noble profession and their popularity among the students are motivating examples for younger people who have taken up teaching as their choice of careers.

The Award Ceremony which was held to honour 50 best teachers of the state was inaugurated by the Dean of IIT, Guwahati Dr Chandan Mahanta and the Vice Chancellor of C T University, Punjab Dr Harsh Sadawati. A survey was conducted among the students and the principals of schools and colleges in Assam to select the 50 best teachers.

MPS among top 50 schools in the country

Maria’s Public School, Guwahati has been awarded with the ‘Future Top 50 Schools Shaping Success Award’, instituted by Univariety and Fortune 500 (India). The Founder and Managing Trustee of the school Mrs Nellie Ahmed and the Principal Mrs Alpana Khound Phukan received the award at a solemn function at New Delhi on October 6, 2017. This was a first of its kind school recognition programme to unveil 50 top schools affiliated to CBSE, ISC and state boards across India and another 50 top schools across the international curricula. The programme recognizes schools that have demonstrated strong vision and results for the future of their students as the change-makers, the trendsetters and the innovators. The schools will also be featured in the ‘Special Exchange Edition’ of Fortune India, a publication that has global reputation for recognizing game changers in every industry.

Marians receive IAYP Gold Awards

This year three students from Maria’s Public School – Pratiksha Bora, Prince Bharali and Angikar D Das successfully completed the gold level of the International Award for Young People, (IAYP) and received the DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S GOLD LEVEL AWARD CERTIFICATE and the GOLD PIN. The IAYP is the most adaptable and successful empowerment programme for today’s youth.

The gold award ceremony was held in New Delhi where gold level qualifiers from all over the country were invited to receive their award certificates. The Award Ceremony was organised on 20th July, 2017 at the India International Centre, New Delhi. The National Award Authority (NAA), New Delhi, took immense pride in felicitating the Gold Award Holders, Award Leaders and Volunteers. This Gold Award ceremony is dedicated to appreciating the milestones and the commitment of each participant. The day was dedicated to celebrate, enjoy and cherish their achievements with friends, family and the IAYP team.

This year the National Award Authority was privileged to invite Dr Vivek Raghavan, Chief Technology Officer, Team Indus as the Chief Guest and Sue Walker, Asia Pacific Regional Director of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, who graced the occasion with their presence.

Chief Guest Dr Vivek Raghavan handed over the Gold Certificates to our participants while Sue Walker honoured a select group of Award Leaders with Special and Voluntary Service Meritorious Certificates where Award leader of our school Mr Binod Baruah also received his service meritorious certificate.

As our students recall their IAYP journey, fulfilling all the four pillars of this award programme at every level i.e., Community Service, Physical Activity, Skill, Adventure Journey and the Residential Project for the gold level participants, I as an award leader of this award programme can proudly state that this programme has instilled in them self discipline, made them more independent as thinkers and decision makers, sensitized them towards their surroundings and above all made them confident, determined and resilient.

Mrs Nellie Ahmed, Founder and Managing Trustee, Maria’s Public School received the School Excellence Award from Brainfeed on February 5, 2017 in Hotel Meredian, New Delhi. This award places MPS among the Top Assam Schools and Top 500 Schools of India. This Award is conferred in commendation with achieving Excellence in quality school Education towards the development of the society.

Laurels for ex Marian

Harshita Gogoi had her foundation laid in Maria’s Public School. Starting from her Montessori, she passed out in the 2008 AISSE batch. Did her class 12 from Army Public School where she was the All Assam topper in Biotechnology in the Boards exam. Graduated the B.Tech in Biotechnology from SRM, Chennai. Qualified for M. S in Environmental Engineering in the University of Oulu, Finland. Graduated with flying colours, earning her M. S by achieving the degree of EXCELLENT with Oivallinen ( Distinction). Furthermore the University of Oulu has absorbed her as a Phd scholar. She has now earned the position of Full time Researcher.

Yet another feather in the Marian cap

Maria’s Public School has secured the third rank among the Co-ed day schools in Guwahati as well as Assam. The rankings were judged by EducationWorld, India School Rankings Awards. Mrs Nellie Ahmed Tanweer, the Founder and Managing Trustee received the certificate in Gurgaon last week and presented it before the teachers and students on the Founder’s Day on September 27, 2016 in the Birkuchi Campus of the school. While displaying the certificate and citation, she applauded the commendable efforts of the teachers and students for this achieving such honour.
