Zahra bags first position in reading competition

Zahra Shaikh, a student of Class 12 (Science) of Maria’s Public School has achieved the first position in Read India Celebration 2020 in the Grade 11-12th category. Students from more than 100 schools from 25 states and cities across India and around the world including New Zealand, Dubai, USA and Canada had participated in the competition. Out of the 16 finalists three were chosen as winners in each of the three categories consisting of Grade 5-7, Grade 8-10 and Grade 11-12. The esteemed panel of judges comprised Ms Uttara Singh, Director, Shriram Millennium Schools, Delhi, Dr Ramancharla Pradeep Kumar, registrar & Professor, IIT, Hyderabad and Raj Panishetty, SVP, Sr. Technology Leader for a Financial Organisation, New York. The grand finale took place on September 28, 2020.

Pratyush bags Best Scout Award

Pratyush Bora of Class VI, Maria’s Public School bagged the Best Scout award for his outstanding efforts and activities in the Inter School Scouts and Guides Camp, held at South Point School, Barsapara recently. A total of 200 students from 16 schools participated in the event.

A Special Award Ceremony

A special Award Ceremony was organized at Maria’s Public School on April 24, 2019. The programme started with a special prayer by senior teacher and counselor of the school, Mrs Mercy Alex followed by a speech by the Founder and Managing Trustee Mrs Nellie Ahmed Tanweer wherein she briefly described the objective of the occasion. The highlight of today’s ceremony was the felicitation of two former Marian students who have achieved international recognitions – Abhishek Gogoi and Ashmita Chaliha – with cash prizes and citations. Abhishek Gogoi, a former student of the Inclusive Education section of the school recently took part in the Special Olympics (World Games) 2019 held in Abu Dhabi and brought laurels to the country in cycling. Ashmita Chaliha another ex-Marian who has been ranked first in the senior category of badminton players in the country has recently played in Amsterdam and brought accolades to the entire country.

The next category of awards was for the students in the Inclusive Education section of the school – Shuvam Dev, Umang Arup Deka, Nishant Das, Ritwija Das and Anika Zainab who have bagged top positions in the two all-Assam sports meets held in Guwahati.

The Managing Trustee then felicitated two teachers of the school Dr Munindra Kumar Majumdar and Mrs Aparna Khanikar. Dr Majumdar recently won a National Award for popularizing mathematics among children through print media. Mrs Khanikar was felicitated for her relentless service as the in-charge of the Social Activity programme in the school for her dedicated work towards achieving the Karmveer Global Education Change Championship Fellowship and Karmaveer Chakra Award by the school .

Came the grand celebrations of the day whic
h were for the school awards and recognitions. As a remarkable achievement, the school and the Guwahati Chapter of AFS won two coveted prizes, the Best Young Chapter and the Best Upcoming Chapter respectively. The school core team of the organization was honoured by the Managing Trustee of the school.

On another occasion on April 15, 2019 the school received the prestigious award, REX Karmveer Global Education Change Championship Fellowship and Karmaveer Chakra Award which was received by the Founder and Managing Trustee Mrs Nellie
Ahmed Tanweer, Principal Mrs Alpana Khound Phukan and Social Activity in-charge Mrs Aparna Khanikar at Delhi Public School, Gurgaon. They were felicitated by the Vice Principal of the school Mr Anjan Gogoi.

The programme came to an end with singing of the school song and the State Anthem.

Shahil wins gold at Asian meet

Shahil Dey of Class VII recently bagged the Gold Medal at the Asian Youth Chess Championship Under 12 category. He is at present ranked at No. 4 in National Ranking and No. 30 in World Ranking. The Founder and Managing Trustee Mrs Nellie Ahmed Tanweer and the entire Marian family wish him heartiest congratulations and all the very best for his future endeavours.

Palkee wins first position

B. Palkee, a student of class VII of Maria’s Public School, Guwahati, won the first prize in a classical dance competition (solo) in the junior category, held in January at a three-day long festival held at the Ganesh Mandir Indoor Stadium, Guwahati. The festival was organized by the Assam Institute of Research for Tribals and Scheduled Castes, in association with Anusuya Dance Academy.

 

Palkee won the prize for her Kathak Shuddha Nritya Performance. She has been learning Kathak for more than seven years at Sur Sangam, under the guidance of Guru Marami Medhi and Megharanjani Medhi. She is also a CCRT Scholarship holder in the field of Kathak for the year 2018-19.She is also an approved radio actor, AIR, Guwahati.

Varishtha and Anweshan win medals

Varishtha Kashyap of Class VIII bagged a Gold medal in the 3rd Kamrup Metro District Taekwondo Championship held on May 12 and May 13, 2018 at the DTRP Indoor Stadium, Guwahati. She played in the Under 44 kg Cadet Girls discipline. In the same competition Anweshan Garg of Class VII won a bronze medal in the Under 81 kg Cadet Boys discipline.


Abheejay wins medal at Skating Nationals

Abheejay Sarma of Class VI clinched the second prize and third prize (2) in 300 mt, 500 mt and 1000 mt races respectively in the National Skating Championship held at Maharishi School at Chennai on May 11 and 12, 2018.


Bhumika lifts Championship trophy

Bhumika Kaushik of Class VI clinched the Cadet Girls Championship title at the 12th All Assam Ranking Table Tennis Championship, 2018 organised by Golaghat District Sports Association.


4th position for Nihad

Nihad Islam Hazarika of Class VI bagged the 4th position with 5 points in 9 rounds at the 5th Kurukshetra Open Fide Rating Chess Tournament, 2018. The tournament was held at DHSK College, Dibrugarh.


Students perform brilliantly in Trinity test

The Trinity College, London conducted a Communication Skill exam in the Initial, Grade 1 and Grade 2 levels on April 24, 2018 among 42 students of Maria’s Public School. Ms Xenia Horne, a Trinity fellow took the tests of the students at the school premises. Although 46 students applied for the test, but four remained absent. Out of the students who took the test, a staggering 39 cleared it securing Distinction, two received Merit and one has secured the pass mark. The Marian fraternity congratulates all the students for their outstanding result.


Bhumika wins trophy in TT meet

Bhumika Kaushik of Class VI secured the third position in the 13th Troilakya Nath Memorial All Assam Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, 2018 in the Sub-junior Girls Singles event. She was also the winner of Cadet Girls Singles event in the same competition. The tournament was held at the Nowgong Sports Association Indoor Stadium, Nagaon from April 30 to May 3, 2018.

Students receive Governor’s Award

Five students of Maria’s Public School, Aswatha B Kashyap, Class-VIII-C, Prity Devi, Class-IX-E, Siddhi Das, Class-IX-B, Harsh Rai, Class-IX-A and Andree Sangma, Class-VIII received Governor’s Awards 2017-18 for Scouts and Guides. The Governor of Assam Jagdish Mukhi presented the awards on April 24, 2018. The team successfully completed the testing camp and all the activities which was held from the 18th to 22nd July 2017 and from the 27th July to 31st July 2017.

Marian speed skating team emerges 1st Runner-up

The team from Maria’s Public School was declared the First Runner Up in the All Assam Inter School Speed Skating Championship held at the Dispur Skating Rink, Rudra Singha Sports Complex on April 7 and 8, 2018. The team won 5 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals. Abhijay Sharma of Class VI C bagged one gold and one silver while his team-mates won the rest of the prizes. Don Bosco School, Pan Bazar secured the first position and Sarla Birla School won the third position in the competition.

rom April 6 to 8, 2018 organised by Guwahati Sports Association. Bhumika Kaushik of Class VI C was adjudged the Cadet Girls Champion in the Sub-Junior category while Prachi Mazumdar of Class V C won the second prize. Kristi Kaushik of Class X C won the third position in the Junior category with the overall result being third position in Junior Boys, Champions in Junior Girls and second position in Senior Girls.

Marians take part in Scouts & Guides camp

Six students of Maria’s Public School participated in the Inter School Scouts and Guides Training Camp, Kamrup, 2017-18 organised by South Point School, Guwahati from March 18 to March 22, 2018. The camp was based on the preparation for President and Governor’s Award. Prity Devi of the Marian team bagged the second prize in the Adventure field. A total of 180 students coming from 14 schools of the city took part in the camp where programmes like Surf Smart (How to create the safest passwords and connect safely with people online), Free Being Me (a non-formal educational programme from the World Association of Girl Guides and Scouts and the Dove self-esteem), Art and Craft (making things with waste materials), Rangoli, Adventure and Gadget Making were held.

Students participate in the national level CBSE Science Exhibition

Two young scientists, Upasana Patgiri and Madhuree Das of class XI Science of Maria’s Public School recentlyparticipated in the National Level CBSE Science Exhibition 2018, at Delhi. Their project titled ‘A Plant with Multiple Uses-Ipomoea carnea’ received unanimous applauds among the myriad exhibits under the Sub-theme ‘Waste management and water body conservation’. The students focused on water body conservation, thus trying to find a solution to minimise the harmful effects of the invasive weed Ipomoea carnea which grows abundantly in wetlands, river bodies, etc. The students utilized their inventive abilities to acquire deeper understanding of the natural environment and bring about positive changes by making paper and compost out of the weed.

Earlier, the school model was selected at the Regional Level Science Exhibition 2017-18 held at Guwahati.It was a unique opportunity to participate in the mega national level event promoting the national and global concerns of inclusivity and sustainability through scientific and mathematical insights.

The national level CBSE Science Exhibition was organized at Mount Abu Public School, Sector-5, Rohini, New Delhi, from 10th to 12th February, 2018.Clinching the theme ‘Innovations for sustainable development’, the exhibition encompassed the sub-themes – health and well being, resource management and food security, waste management and water body conservation, transport and communication, digital and technological solutions and mathematical modeling.
The exhibition was a confluence of the Regional Level Winning teams from CBSE affiliated schools from different states of India, in which participants showcased their innovative working/nonworking models, exhibits, projects and presentations, supported by reports, displays and research papers. Overall, around 450 exhibits were displayed involving 885 students who participated in this scientific endeavor with unbridled enthusiasm to share their creative ideas and solutions to the challenges of existence.

Dedicated to progressive exploration and innovativeness, all three days of the National Level Science Exhibition witnessed the brilliance of the budding scientists as well as the hospitality of the host school which is worth mentioning. ‘The whole of science is nothing more than a refinement of everyday thinking.’….This is what I felt being a part of the exhibition which is indeed a great enriching experience and a new platform for learning and sharing ideas amongst students and teachers across the country.

Varistha wins gold again

Varistha Kashyap has yet again won two gold medals in Taekwondo competitions in January, 2018. She clinched the first gold in the 1st Guwahati Open Taekwondo Championship – 2018 held from January 2 to 8, 2018 at Guwahati. She achieved another gold in the 4th Northeast Kuorugi Taekwondo Championship held from January 8 to 10, 2018 at Karimganj.

Sahil strikes again

Sahil Dey, a student of Class V and the most promising chess wizard of Assam has yet again brought laurel to the school as well as the state. This time the little champ won the first position in the National School Chess Championships held in Bhubaneswar which concluded on February 1, 2018. The entire Marian family headed by Mrs Nellie Ahmed, the Founder and Managing Trustee, congratulated the champion.

Maharnab on celluloid

A budding actor Maharnab Mahanta has acted in the Bidyut Katoky directed new Assamese movie, ‘Xoixobote Dhemalite (Rainbow Fields) playing the childhood stage of the actor Nakul Vaid. The students of classes IV, V, VI and VII were taken to enjoy the film at the Auradha Cineplex recently. Everyone cheered gleefully when they saw their fellow student on the screen enacting his part immaculately.

Tanushka and Jahnavi bag prizes

Tanushka Pator of Class VI D, Maria’s Public School has won the under 14 Girls’ Championship in the 20th India Anup Lahoty Open Tennis Championships held under the aegis of All Assam Tennis Association on January 27, 2018 at India Club, Guwahati. She defeated Kalpita Rajkhowa 6-2, 6-2.

Jahnavi Kabra of Class VII D bagged a bronze medal in Kumite under 13 Girls’ category at the Second South Asian Karate Do Championships held at Dispur Indoor Stadium on January 27 and 28, 2018.

Earlier she won a gold medal in Kata and a silver in Komite in the 31st Inter District Karate Do Championship held at Dispur Indoor Stadium, Guwahati on December 24 and 25, 2017.

The Principal Mrs Alpana Khound Phukan felicitated these two budding sports stars in the morning assembly on January 30, 2018.

Abhishek sets new national record

Abhishek Gogoi, a student from Maria’s Public School in the Inclusive Education section bagged two gold medals in cycling in the NCC national level meet and a national competition held at Ratu, Ranchi. He set a new national record by covering 10km in just 19.21sec. This has enabled him to get the first position in India and the 12th in world position. We at Maria’s offer our heartiest congratulations to Abhishek! May he reach the stars!

Shahil Dey of Maria’s Pubic School has received the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement, 2017 by the Govt. of India. The award was conferred by the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan on November 14, 2017.

Budding Chess Wizard

KEERTAN KALITA of class-I C, has been participating in various chess tournaments in Guwahati and outside for the last one year. He has already shown signs of emerging as an outstanding chess player in the country in the future. He has won prizes in District (Kamrup-M) Champion under-7 in the Open Category organized by All Assam Chess Association (AACA) held in South Point School, Guwahati in November, 2017, 2nd position under-7 in Open Category in NF Railway One Day Rapid Chess Tournament held in NF Railway Indoor Stadium, Maligaon in November, 2017 and participated as donor entry under-7 open category in 31st National Chess Championship held in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh organized by All India Chess Federation ( AICF) in September, 2017.

Marian win prizes at Odyssey, 2017

Students of Maria’s Public School bagged the second prize in the Street Play Competition organized as a part of Odyssey, an annual cultural event at Sanskriti the Gurukul, Guwahati on October 31, 2017. The students who took part in the play are Tanim Majumder, Tania Choudhury, Anna Barua, Sparsh Chetri, Shaheen Choudhury, Ankita Kakoti, Ayantan Choudhury, Rishiraj Roy, Harshali Kemphrai and Antarul Haque. In the same event the Marian swimmers bagged gold and silver medals playing in different age categories. They have also won silver medals in the 4×25 medley relay in the under 19 age category and in the 4×25 free-style relay in the under 19 age category. The Marian swimmers who participated in the aquatic events are – Trivarg Arandhara, Bibhash Kalita, Kalyanam Priyam Dewri, Aditya Bhagawati and Hachabee Ullah.

Students win prize at science exhibition

A group of three students of Class X1 Science bagged the second prize in the Inter School Science Exhibition held by Gurukul Grammar Senior Secondary School on October 30 and 31, 2017. The model prepared by them was ‘A Plant with Multiple Uses’. The theme was to conserve water bodies from the hazardous growth of a weed called Ipomea Camea (bush Morning Glory). These plants are used to make paper and compost. The students who took part were Upasana Patgiri, Madhuree Das and Raginee Das. The other participants from Class 9 were Madhulina Sonowal and Gyanushree Khound who prepared the model ‘A Table with a Difference’.

Participation at Katha Regional Children Writers’ workshop

A large team of 49 students from Classes 4 to XI took part in the Katha Regional Children Writers’ Workshop held at Royal Global School on November 3 and 4, 2017. The students participated in the two-day event enthusiastically and learnt the nitty-gritty of creative writing from renowned writers of northeast India, namely, Mamang Dai, Dr Shrutimala Duwara, Rashmi Narzary, Amanda Basaiawrmoit and Dr Merry Barua Bora.

News from Scouts & Guides

Bharat Scouts and Guides in collaboration with the Director of Sports and Youth Welfare organized a 5 day long program from the 8th Oct to the 12 Oct 2017 at the Refinery Playground sector 2 Guwahati. Sports minister Mr. Naba Doley was present amidst the gathering to grace the occasion as chief guest. Aspirants from 18 different districts turned up with 1000 participants to take part in different events. From Kamrup Metro there were 30 students including two students from Marias Public School, Birkuchi, Guwahati. There were 15 events in the Programme which were open for all flaunt each other where the students got an opportunity to compete with their rivals and show case their talents. Marian come out with flying colours by securing the 1st position in Rangoli and 2nd position in Skillorama.

Two championship trophies and one runner-up position for Marians

The Marian Table Tennis team has bagged two championships and one Runner-up positions in Under 14 Boys, Under 19 Girls and Under 14 Girls events respectively in the CBSE Cluster – 1 Inter School Table Tennis Championships, 2017 held at Don Bosco School, Guwahati from October 6 to October 8, 2017. In the individual events Aryaman Das of Class VIII won the Championship Trophy while Gargee Goswami of Class X became the champion in the Under 19 Girls category. Bhumika Kaushik of Class IV achieved the third position in the Under 14 Girls event. Besides the position holders the other players that took part in the competitions are Ahnik Gautam, Class VII and Mayank Saikia, Class VII (Under 14 Boys), Pranchi Mazumdar, Class IV (Under 14 Girls) and Riza Anirvaan, Class XII and Kristi Kaushik, Class IX (under 19 Girls). The Founder and Managing Trustee Mrs Nellie Ahmed, Principal Mrs Alpana Phukan and the entire Marian fraternity have congratulated the students for this extraordinary feat.

Maria’s clinches TT championship

It was a Maria’s vs Maria’s tussle in the individual final in the Open Table Tennis Championship at IIT, Guwahati, on October 15, 2017. Gargi Sarma emerged as champion while Riza Anirban, the other Marian in the tournament received the Runner-up trophy.

Gold and silver in Taekwondo

Varishtha Kashyap won a GOLD medal in CBSE Taekwondo Finals and Aiyush Choudhury got a SILVER medal in BOYS Category in the recently held national event.


Ayan achieves second position in CBSE shooting

Ayan Arnab Kashyap of Class V, Maria’s Public School has achieved the second position in the Air Rifle event of the CBSE Far East Zone Shooting Meet, 2017. The event was held at Vigyanand Kendriya Vidyalaya, Chanaur, Siwan from October 4 to 7, 2017. The Founder and Managing Trustee Mrs Nellie Ahmed, Principal Mrs Alpana Phukan and the entire Marian fraternity have congratulated the budding shooter.

Best Player crown for Sahil in CBSE cluster chess championship

Sahil Dey of Class V, Maria’s Public School received the Best Player award in the Under-17 category at the recently held CBSE Far East Zone Cluster Chess Championship at Guwahati. The little chess master played brilliantly to achieve the title. Maria’s Public School won the overall second position in the Under-17 category at the championship.

Nayanjyoti Das, a rising star

Nayanjyoti, a student of Class V at Maria’s Public School has been able to receive accolades in the field of dance and drama showcasing his talent in various places in the country. The budding artiste received a certificate and an award in Mathura in 2017 at the International Multi Lingual Play Dance and Music contest at 5th Mohan’s Rang Mahotsav while bagging the second position in dance. He was also adjudged as the Best Child Actor in the event. Earlier, Nayanjyoti received a certificate in the 4th Indian classical dance festival for youth held in Visakhapatnam in 2016. He also took part in the All India Multi-Lingual Drama Competition in Cuttak, Orissa in 2016 and was able to create ripples in the field.


Marian win prizes in taekwondo meet

Ayush Choudhury of Class VII has bagged a gold medal and a silver medal in the Cadet individual and Cadet Pair respectively in the 34th Taekwondo Championship, 2017 (7th Poomsae Sub-junior, Junior, Senior and 4th Cadet Poomsae Taekwondo Championship) organized by Tinsukia District Taekwondo Association held from July 27 to July 30, 2017. Varistha Kashyap of Class VII B won a silver medal in the Cadet Girls Under 41 kg in the same competition. Atrayee Choudhury of Class III D bagged a bronze medal in the Sub-Junior category in the Under 20 kg in the event.


Afsheen for Chess National Championship

 

Afsheen Afsha Zaman, Class 2 of Maria’s Public School has been srlected to participate in the Under-7 National Chess Championship to be held at Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh to be held from September 3-13, 2017. Sahil in U-10 Indian team

Sahil Dey of Class V, Maria’s Public School has been included in the Indian team which will participate in the World Cadets Chess Championship (U- 10) to be held at Pocos de Coldas, Brazil from August 23, 2017. Sahil was selected for the Indian team based on his performances in the national U-9 Chess Championship last year. The Founder and Managing Trustee Mrs Nellie Ahmed, the Principal Mrs Alpana Khound Phukan and the entire Marian family wish him hearfelt good wishes.

Sahil Dey and Afsheen Zaman, the chess wizards of Maria’s Public School have clinched gold medals at the All Assam Inter District Under 7 & 11(Boys and Girls) Chess Championships held from March 29 to April 2, 2017 at South Point School Indoor Stadium, Guwahati. While Sahil Dey bagged the 1st place in the under 11 category, Afsheen emerged champion in the under 7 category. Another budding chess talent Nihaf becam the first runner-up in the under 7 category. The tournament was organised by Guwahati Chess Association on behalf of All Assam Chess Association. CBSE Award Merit Certificates
