The 25th edition of Mofizuddin Ahmed Hazarika Literary Fest has culminated into the Award Ceremony on August 30, 2025 to honour and appreciate the literary acumen of the budding literary talents showcased during the competitions held on August 22 and 23, 2025 at the Maria’s Public School premises.
The Award Ceremony at GMC Auditorium (New) was graced by Dr Ranoj Pegu, honourable Minister of Education, Government of Assam, as the Chief Guest. Dr Ranjit Kumar Baruah, an accomplished ENT surgeon and a renowned author and columnist attended the ceremony as the Guest of Honour. The other distinguished guests included recipient of Mofizuddin Ahmed Hazarika Memorial Kavya Award 2025 Dr. Lutfa Hanum Salima Begum, a host of other dignitaries, the award winners of the literary fest competitions and their parents and accompanying teachers.
Dr Ranoj Pegu in his address to the gathering deliberated on the philosophical elements present in the Gyan Malini poet’s works. He also spoke at at length about the 21st century skills and said that such literary practices would enhance creative, critical as well as communication skills which have become pertinent to sustain in the present era.
Dr Ranjit Kumar Baruah deliberated on elements of sufism and universality found in the works of the Gyan Malini Poet in his speech.
Mrs Nellie Ahmed, Founder and Managing Trustee reminisced about the beginning of the literary fest and the Kavya Award in her speech and said that the award was instituted in 2020 to commemorate the poet’s 150th birth anniversary and to honour the renowned litterateurs of the state. Mrs Ahmed also commended the pathbreaking initiatives taken up by the Minister of Education to open new vistas for the youth of Assam.
Principal Mausumi Mahanta in her welcome address said, “We gather here to celebrate not just individual achievements but the collective spirit of excellence, camaraderie and bonding that has marked the two days of the Annual MAH Inter-School Literary Fest. The benchmark set by each participant, with their creativity, passion, and dedication, has been truly inspiring.”
The captivating dance performance and fusion music performed by students of Maria’s Public School enthralled the audience in the ceremony.
The ceremony was compered by Mrs Tulika Bharadwaj (Dept of Assamese), Basudev Gohainboruah (Class 10) and Tanaya Das (Class 10). The awards were announced by Dr Sarah Hussain (Dept of History).
The 25th edition of the MAH Literary Festival, brought together an overwhelming 450 participants to the campus of Maria’s Public School on 22nd and 23rd August, 2025. This year students from Panbazar Govt Girls’ H.S.School, T.C. Govt. Girls’ H.S.School, Ganesh Mandir Govt. H S. School, Gopal Boro Govt.H.S.School, Ulubari Govt. H.S.School and Bhaskar Vidyapith Govt. H .S. School have also joined in the competitions along with private English medium schools across the city. Thus the Fest has seen the fulfillment of the NEP 2020 mandate of partnership between government and private educational institutions. Worth mentioning that Maria’s Public School has been practising this for about two decades through its community connection programmes.
To honour and appreciate thr inspiring participation of the government schools, Maria’s Public School offered a token of appreciation to each of the six government schools.
Like the previous years, the two-day fest brimmed with competitions across four languages, including:
Assamese/Hindi/Sanskrit/English Speechcraft, Poem Depiction through Art, English and Assamese Creative Writing (Prose), On-the-Spot Poem writing, Haiku Writing, Debate and Street Play.
