We’re proud and thrilled to announce that Mrs Nellie Ahmed, the Founder and Managing Trustee, Maria’s Public School will be speaking at the World Inclusion Congress 2025 in Almaty, Kazakhstan organised by IFIP from September 15 to 17, 2025.
Worth mentioning that Mrs Ahmed has been a pioneer in inclusive education in the Northeast Region in India initiating inclusivity in the school about three decades back. The school’s Inclusive Education Wing, equipped with specially trained teachers, provides personalized support to children with specific impairments.
The first ever student, who had hearing and speaking impairment is now a successful homemaker. Another student of the earlier batches, with the same impairments, is now a teacher in the school, married with two smart kids.
Mrs Ahmed made it a point to build an inclusive approach which is woven into everyday teaching practices, such as: Using person-first language – placing the individual before the disability (e.g., “a child with autism rather than “an autistic child”), creating safe environments – protecting vulnerable students from isolation and stigma, integrating inclusive modules – designing lessons that encourage collaboration and acceptance, encouraging positive perspectives – helping children see differences as strengths, reducing implicit bias – cultivating awareness and empathy, focusing on strong learning outcomes – preparing students with skills that last beyond the classroom.Abhishek Gogoi, an alumni, represented India in the Paralympics and today is a successful entrepreneur, Noyondita Das’s voice as a singer resonates far and wide and Parismita Deka is a talented dancer.
