From the Principal’s Desk

On 3rd August, 2026 the MPS Team comprising Founder Managing Trustee Nellie Ahmed, Middle School Coordinator Mala Phukan, Liaison Officer Rizwana Mehboob, Estate Manager Hitesh Kalita and myself visited flood affected villages in Upper Assam on our way to Sivasagar to personally distribute essential food items, clothes, bedcovers, mosquito nets, antiseptic liquids, candles, drinking water etc donated by our students, parents and teachers. The decision to go ourselves to ascertain the situation and monitor the distribution was taken by none other but the Founder Managing Trustee herself!

Being present in Ground Zero was a deeply moving experience. It was heartbreaking to witness the devastation and hear the stories of the affected people. Right now they hope to rebuild their homes from scratch with support from the government and people. They need medical attention as men, women and children are battling with skin and eye infection.

The most ravaged villages are Bihubor, Santak, Simoluguri, Bhadhora, Maibela, Lakwa, Sonari, Geleki, Ligiripukhuri, Nazira, Gorikapar, Malow Gaon and Betbari.

We were all set to go to Malow Gaon, a few kilometres from Jorhat by boat to donate to the people. But as we were getting ready, the sky darkened with pitch black clouds, sudden flashes of bright lightning splitting the air, and a torrential downpour, drenching us completely. The official from the DC’s office informed us that it would not be safe for us to go to Malow and hence we headed to Sivasagar instead, distributing essential supplies to the flood hit people staying in temporary shelters for weeks now.

We also donated generously to Global Sikhs (Serving Beyond Borders) who are doing commendable work in the interior villages, building homes and organising Health Camps, besides carrying essential supplies for the affected people.

On behalf of the entire Marian Fraternity, I extend my deepest gratitude to our parents, teachers and students for their overwhelming generosity, empathy, and quick response to our urgent call for flood relief. In moments of crisis, it is these core values of solidarity and kindness for our fellow human beings that sustain us and hold humanity in good stead.

Our hearts remain with the people of Assam during this challenging time. As they recover and rebuild, we will continue to keep them in our prayers until peace and normalcy return to their lives and hope leads the way to a meaningful new beginning.
